What are the impacts of emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS) on marine and
freshwater ecosystems?
Background
Clean, healthy, and biologically diverse seas and freshwater environments are fundamental to
delivering Scotland's Blue Economy Vision. This research area focuses on understanding and
addressing the impacts of human activities on marine and freshwater ecosystems, developing
approaches to reduce pollution and degradation, and promoting active restoration to
enhance ecosystem health and function.

Funded by: Horizon Europe Guarantee
Why might this be relevant?
The project specifically focuses on assessing the impacts of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) on the marine environment, including the development of an integrated assessment framework.

Funded by: NERC
Why might this be relevant?
While the project focuses on PFAS pollutants in sediment, it does not directly address the impacts on marine and freshwater ecosystems, but it provides relevant information on the fate and transport of PFAS in aquatic systems.

Why might this be relevant?
Similar to the first project, this project also focuses on assessing the impacts of contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) on the marine environment, providing a comprehensive approach to understanding and monitoring these impacts.
