What are the impacts of marine and freshwater heatwaves and other climaterelated perturbations (e.g., salinity and nutrient fluctuations) on marine and
freshwater species and ecosystem function at different spatial and temporal scales?
Background
Climate change and biodiversity loss represent two interlinked crises affecting Scotland's
marine and freshwater environments. Understanding the impacts of climate change,
developing effective adaptation strategies, and enhancing the resilience of marine and
freshwater ecosystems are essential for delivering the Blue Economy Vision and meeting
Scotland's climate and biodiversity commitments.

Why might this be relevant?
While this project focuses on warming and ecosystem functioning, it only partially addresses the question by not specifically mentioning marine heatwaves or freshwater perturbations.
