How can we take a systems based approach to adapt to climate change in the ENRA policy areas?
Background
Question Group: Focused on creating climate-resilient landscapes through optimised land use, and climate-positive landscapes through research to reduce emissions and enhance natural carbon sinks. Emphasises systems thinking and leveraging data, modelling, and decision-support tools to mitigate climate impacts, enhance land management, and manage pressures on water resources while promoting a just transition.
Sub-questions: -What are the potential costs of inaction on the status quo (as well as costs of action)?
-What are the most effective methods to embed behaviour change in staff in mature public body organisations?
-Where geographically should interventions around nature networks be targeted, recognising CC means that flora and fauna will move?
-Where geographically should peatland restoration/management under CC for maximum long-term benefit - e.g. for flooding prevention?
-What options should be developed for 'new' coastal habitats (i.e. as the coast is squeezed by sea level rise)?
-How best should we protect our current carbon stores against CC?
-How should we understand the relative benefits of sequestering carbon in a range of upland or lowland ecosystems, including wet heath, dry heath, acid grasslands/rough grazing (and net GHG incl livestock, muirburn), scrub and low density woodlands?
-How can we incorporate learning from rural heritage to deliver policies for climate adaptation, nature restoration and economic growth?
