What data infrastructure is needed to support long-term, strategic and connected decision-making for rural and island communities?
Background
Question Group: Focused on strengthening Scotland’s rural and island communities, by improving understanding of service delivery, investment and land reform, alongside the characteristics of diverse rural and island areas. Aims to empower rural and island communities through innovative and place-based research methods, and provision of the right data and tools, to ensure that they can thrive.
Sub-questions: -What data currently collected by Scottish Government or UK sources is available at an appropriate geographic scale for rural and island communities, and where are there gaps due to small populations or statistical suppression?
-How does Scotland’s data architecture need to evolve, including to better support community and stakeholder use of data in rural and island contexts?
-What approaches most effectively support rural and island communities to access, interpret and use their own data in local decision-making, and what works differently in island contexts?
-How far can innovative or experimental datasets (including academic and community-generated data) be incorporated into mainstream use, particularly to improve evidence for island communities?
