How can evidence be used to understand the nature, distribution and impacts of public, private and community investment in rural and island communities in Scotland?
Background
Question Group: Focused on strengthening Scotland’s rural and island communities, by improving understanding of service delivery, investment and land reform, alongside the characteristics of diverse rural and island areas. Aims to empower rural and island communities through innovative and place-based research methods, and provision of the right data and tools, to ensure that they can thrive.
Sub-questions: - What do we know about public, private and other investment in Scotland's rural and island communities? How has the level of investment changed over time and geography?
-What is the potential of emerging investment opportunities for island and rural communities? (public investment models, community benefits from energy infrastructure, private investment in natural capital, visitor/cruise ship levy, land or other local taxes)
-What does the evidence tell us about how different investment models translate into outcomes for people living in rural and island communities, and how context of place (particularly islands and very remote rural) affects those outcomes?
-Who is excluded from accessing investment or community benefit models in rural and island communities, and what evidence exists on approaches to address this?
